Nigerian soldiers on Friday fired at three female would-be suicide bombers, the explosives of two of whom went off, killing all three of them, police said.
“Three female suicide bombers with [explosives] strapped to their bodies were sighted by a military patrol team moving towards Maiduguri” in the north-east, police spokesman Victor Isuku said.“They were promptly gunned down and the [explosives] on two of them exploded, killing all of them,” he added. It was not immediately known why the explosives went off. The radical Islamist group Boko Haram often uses women as suicide bombers.
