The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state has distanced itself from the results being announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It was gathered that the party described the results so far announced as a predetermined fabrication, accusing the INEC and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of electoral fraud as well as militarisation.
Protests took place outside the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin, the capital city of the State. The protesters alleged change of results by the electoral commission. Security officials have formed a barricade outside the INEC office to stall any breakdown of law and order.
WSJ reports that some of the protesters told Channels Television that the results announced by INEC was not a reflection of what transpired at the polling units. INEC announced results of nine out of 18 Local Government Areas with the All Progressives Congress candidate winning in five while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party has scooped the remaining four Local Government Areas.
The APC won in Owan West, Egor, Igueben, Uhunwomnde and Oredo local government areas, while the PDP polled more votes in Esan West, Orhiomwon, Esan South-East and Esan North-East local government areas
