Prostitution: Edo APC, PDP Women In War Of Words

The All Progressives Congress (APC), women leaders, weekend urged Edo women to discountenance the campaign of calumny mounted against the wife of APC governorship candidate, Mrs Betsy Obaseki  by former executive director, Edo State Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Evelyn Igbafe who recently defected to the PDP.

It would be recalled that the APC governorship candidate’s wife in an interview was reported to have stated that PDP’s 12 years of bad leadership forced Edo women into prostitution abroad, a remark that had pitched her against PDP women in the state.

Igbafe when contacted said there is no going back on the protest for not tendering an apology to Edo women “even after her agents have confirmed that she indeed called Edo women prostitutes”.

She noted that “Her refusal to apologize smacks of the type of arrogance her husband is known for. How can such an arrogantly mischievous lady be the first lady in Edo State? God forbid that a woman who openly and unjustifiably describes our daughters as prostitutes becomes our first lady!”

But Edo APC women leader at a press conference yesterday said it was quite disheartening that Mrs Igbafe whom she claimed has penchant for party defections decided to mis-interpret the content of Mrs Obaseki’s remarks in the said article.

She stated “What Mrs Obaseki said which we all agree with, was that the previous government of PDP because of the way they destroyed the very fabric of our society forced a lot of young women to travel abroad for greener pastures and should be blamed for that. If Evelyn Igbafe didn’t understand the write up she should be blamed for that, or she should have asked somebody to read it for her and explained it to her since her brain is dull.

“I personally wondered why she brought in the issue of prostitution because she herself is a political prostitute. I am not saying that because I want to say something but she has been a political prostitute. She is the only Edo woman that will bear the name of two men at the same time.

“Secondly in 2007 she was in PDP, as soon as the Oshiomhole got his mandate in 2008, in 2009, Mrs Igbafe Omokhodion decamped to A C N and after that in 2011 when we were preparing for re-lection of Oshiomhole in 2012 again she decamped back to PDP.

“We won the election; Oshiomhole got 18 over 18 in all the local government. As soon as we won that election Igbafe again decamped back to APC.  Now we are preparing for another crucial election, again she decamped to PDP. Edo women are very happy that she has gone back to PDP.

“ If you look at her antecedent there is no party that she belonged to that wins elections, and we want to warn her that APC will not take her back because we are going to win this election, anybody she supports never wins election and I feel sorry for the PDP. Please remember she is going to try and come to APC again we will never accept her in APC. September 28th we are going to give PDP the final burial and she will be buried with PDP”.
