Ajimobi’s Brother Narrates His COVID-19 Survival Experience, Asks Govt To Arrest Face Mask Use Defaulters

The younger brother of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the former governor of Oyo state, Adetunji Ajimobi, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde over the facilities and care being given to COVID-19 patients at the isolation center.

Ajimobi, who gave the commendation on Monday while sharing his COVID-19 experience on Fresh 105.9 FM programme, COVID-19 situation room, said he spent seven days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the facility.

The COVID-19 survivor who said he doesn’t know how he contracted the virus, narrated how he could have died if he had not gone to the isolation centre, adding that it is better to go to isolation facilities provided by the government than to self isolate at home.

He said: When they asked me what are the symptoms I am feeling, I said I have not been coughing but I have been feeling feverish, the headache is too much. They said it was just a mild symptom that I should self- isolate. But you see self-isolation they are talking about, is it all of us that have private room? Is it everyone that has who understand the thing enough to take care of us? I did the self isolation, I was in my room, everything was being controlled but did anybody know the pain I was going through, can my health carry it for five days of isolation?

“They are trying, they kept on calling, they told me what to do, I was doing it but because of the pain I was going through, I was using everything that will make the pain go away. They told me everything and sent a link to me on my WhatsApp to follow. When I started using it and nothing changed, the pain was getting too much.If I waited for two to three extra days, I don’t know what will happen.

“When I got to the isolation center at Olodo, I was impressed. I saw a neat compound, everything was in place. When I got there to be honest with you, I did not use Ajimobi, I used Adetunji and my middle name. Even when I did the test.

“All the tests they were supposed carry out on me were done. Even there are some I may not do if I go to the hospital personally. They were giving us drugs as family members. Don’t let us put politics in COVID-19, we should face the reality about it, they did well. Under two to three days, I was already feeling better. Some people were thinking being in ICU was a death sentence, though I saw hell and a lot of things I wouldn’t want to discuss. Coronavirus does not need to kill, people don’t need to lie or hide about their COVID-19 status if they are positive.

“Tell people around you, you don’t have to hide yourself inside the house and be deceiving others. One might be asymptomatic and be moving around. After I have spent four days, I’ve already started jogging and playing , so they know this one is already okay. They did test for me three times. Everything they were doing, they were updating it every blessed day. They will come and wake you up 6am to check your BP. Will anybody come to my house to check my BP at 6am is self-isolation?

“To be honest, I don’t know how they set the place up and maybe it was the doctors that were being honourable but with the approach they give patients there, there is no way the patients won’t recover from their illness. They will talk to you and say things that will make you happy. There is no stigma, they should urge people to go to isolation centers.”

Ajimobi said he was just happy that the state gave him a first class treatment at the Olodo isolation centre without knowing who he is.

“If they had disclosed my identity when they took me there that I was Ajimobi’s brother and I saw this treatment, I’ll say it is because of my brother. I just said I am Adetunji Afeez and I didn’t say more than that,” he said.

He urged the government to create more isolation centers and ensure that everybody get tested, saying : “His excellency has tried in terms of that isolation center. I don’t know if that’s how all the isolation centers are but Olodo is the best isolation center. I didn’t not go to others but what I experienced and with the people that are working there, they tried.”

Ajimobi said the Oyo State Government should start arresting face mask use defaulters, noting that markets and public places are the major source of infection.

“What I will just say is that people should follow government’s guidelines on prevention of the virus. COVID-19 is not something that will kill somebody immediately, they should understand this first before saying they don’t want to contract it. I don’t know how government will go about it but you should use your mask 24/7. They should do it that everybody must use mask.

“And if they can do it in a way that anybody that is positive should go straight to the isolation center and not self isolate, it is better. Because the drugs they ask you to use, you don’t know the combination of how they asked you to use it,” he added.
