Manchester City Retain Premier League Title, Beat Briton 4-1

Manchester City are Premier League champions after completing a 4-1 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

The result sees us finish on 98 points, one ahead of second-placed Liverpool who beat Wolves 2-0 in their final game of the season.

Here we take a look at some remarkable statistics and milestones from another memorable Premier League campaign.

A Decade

City are the first side since Manchester United a decade ago to retain the Premier League title.

City managed a remarkable 98 points, dropping just 16 all seasons.

That means over the past two seasons, City have amassed 198 Premier League points, which is 26 more than Liverpool, in second, have managed in the same period.

To drop just 30 points in two years in the world’s most competitive league is clear evidence of our remarkable consistency.

Taking on all comers

City are the first side since Preston to claim at least one league victory against every side they have faced in two consecutive seasons.

Preston did it back in in 1888-89 and 1889-90.

City have also equalled the Premier League record, set by us last year during the Centurion campaign, for the most wins in a single campaign: 32.

What’s more, the lead at the top of the table changed hands a record-breaking 32 times in what turned out to be the most keenly fought battle for the Premier League in recent memory.

City are the first team to end a top-flight campaign with 14 consecutive victories, breaking Arsenal’s record of 13 in 2001-02.

Only that level of consistency was going to see us fend off Liverpool’s challenge, and it’s a stat that underlines the mental fortitude in our squad. There was no margin for error, and we managed to get over the line.

Liverpool’s tally of 97 would have been enough to win the Premier League every year except the last two. It’s the highest runners-up tally in history of the competition.

This is the first time two sides has amassed 90+ points in a single season.

City have scored xx goals in the league this season, six more than nearest challengers Liverpool.
