Gbade Ojo, A Good Example Of Good Christians In Politics – Rev. Roberts

A Lagos-based man of God, Rev. Kolawole Henry Roberts has commended Dr Gbade Ojo, former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for participating in politics without soiling his name or dent his image.

World Street Journal exclusively reports that Rev. Roberts of the Hero Global Revival Ministries, made the assertion on Sunday during a thanksgiving service organised for Ojo at the Sanctuary of Christ Evangelical Church, Ibadan to commemorate his return to the University community at the expiry of his leave of absence from the University of Ilorin.

The globally acclaimed man of God eulogized Gbade Ojo who last week had resigned from the Oyo State government after a five-year stint in government.

‘’I’m proud of you and I’m sure the body of Christ is proud of you for leaving the government without your image soiled or dented’’, Rev Roberts said, noting that Gbade Ojo, an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Ilorin participated in the troubled Nigerian politics without joining secrete cults for powers.

Rev Roberts further said, ‘’I’m sure members of your church are also proud of you for your involvement in politics without blemish’’. Gbade Ojo who is the General Overseer of the Sanctuary Of Christ Evangelical Church joined the Oyo State government in March 2014 as Special Adviser to the governor on Political matters before he was promoted to the post of Chief of Staff to the governor in 2015 after the unprecedented second term victory of Ajimobi as governor of the pacesetter state.

Speaking earlier, Gbade Ojo dismissed the insinuation in the social media that he left the government because of some rifts with the governor. He said he had a cordial relationship with the governor throughout his stay in government. He also denied that he left the government because the ruling party, APC lost heavily to PDP in the state.

According to him, he had been promoted a professor by the University of Ilorin since 2017, adding that the university authorities however, insisted that he could only assume full pedagogical nomenclature until the time he returned for academic duties at the end of his leave of absence.

He explained that he had notified the governor since last year when the university of Ilorin sent him a reminder that his leave of absence would expire on March 19, 2019 with a proviso that he either resumed on the agreed date or forget about his position in the University employ and rather transmute into a full-blown politician in the services of Oyo State.

He further explained that he attached the letter from the University to his resignation letter addressed to the governor. He said the governor who expressed no objection however, directed Secretary to the State Government SSG, Alhaji Lekan Alli, to write a commendation letter to him in appreciation of his invaluable contributions to the government.

Gbade Ojo pointed out that his resignation letter was leaked to the media when the ministry of finance was furnished with information about the development in order to stop his salary from the month of April. ‘’ As a child of God, I’m not supposed to earn salaries from two different sources’’, he said, stressing that some people might be tempted to hang on since the tenure of the present administration would end in about two months.

He however, disclosed that he did not go into government to enrich himself. He stated that he earned less as Chief of Staff to the governor than what he would  ordinarily earn as a university professor.

He however, expressed gratitude to Senator Ajimobi for giving him the opportunity to serve the state, stressing that he is now more enriched in both knowledge and wisdom leaving government for the university. According to Gbade Ojo, authorities of the University of Ilorin have notified him of the school’s preparedness to organize series of workshops and seminars wherein he would share his practical experience in politics and governance with his colleagues in the ivory tower.

It was gathered that his colleagues at the department of political science who admitted to having only the theoretical knowledge of politics and governance have implored the former Special Adviser to the governor on political matters to take them through the practical aspects of the art of politics and governance at the workshops.

Relieving life-threatening experiences during the cause of duties, Dr Gbade Ojo returned all the glory and adoration to God for His protection over him and his family throughout the period he was in government, particularly during the 2015 electioneering campaigns.
