Confusion As “Madman” Stabs Ekiti Monarch To Death

A middle-aged man, believed to be of unsound mind on Monday in Odo-Oro Ekiti, a community in Ikole Local Government Area of the state, allegedly stabbed the traditional ruler, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin to death, World Street Journal reports.

The traditional ruler, who ascended the throne in 1986, it was learnt, was allegedly stabbed with a knife bt a man suspected to be insane after a meeting of traditional council.

A resident, Mr Henry Olu, said the assailant was from the same royal family as the slain traditional ruler.Olu said the assailant was earlier seen before the meeting sitting on the throne and was chased away. The police public relations officer in Ekiti, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed the incident. ”It’s true the incident actually happened and police men have moved in. The person alleged is of unsound mind and he actually escaped into the bush after committing the crime

A formal announcement of Oba Ogunsakin’s transition is expected to be made by the state government as soon the rites of passage are concluded.

The monarch’s death after the stabbing sparked outrage from the youths of the community who stormed the house of his parents.

The youths reportedly demolished the house of the lunatic’s parents in protest against the alleged regicide.

A manhunt has been reportedly launched for the culprit.

The major road linking the community with other towns has been barricaded by the irate youths.

The incident forced a diversion of traffic by motorists going to towns like Itapaji, Iyemero, Ayebode, Ayedun, Omuo, Lokoja and Abuja.
